Xiao Chen, the Banka mill manager, is from the Wa ethnic group and lives on the farm with his wife and two children. Xiao is a great manager because he speaks Lahu, Wa, Burmese and Chinese. Most of the harvesters are Lahu, so he’s able to communicate with them and also participate in local community activities. He’s also a self-taught builder, welder and mechanic and is able to do the majority of maintenance and building on the site.

The natural coffees processed at Banka Washing Station are hand-picked, run through a (wet) optical color sorter, and then fermented in cherry for two days. Finally, they are spread and dried on raised beds inside a parabolic dryer or alongside the drying patio. - from Yunnan Coffee Traders
