The majority of the income at Finca El Jutal  comes from the production and harvesting of basic grains, vegetables, poultry, wild blackberry, peaches, and livestock. However, the experience of being a coffee producer isn't new to Salvador; he has been producing for 21 years! In general, mostly what he has produced in the past has been commercial grade coffee, as he never had access to proper technical support or to specialty markets. In 2008, still without technical assistance, he planted the most recent varieties and has had success over the past few years. Such so, that his neighbors took note to how his varieties were producing at that elevation and they themselves also decided to start growing them. At Finca El Jutal, everything is done in the family in order to help reduce labor costs and improve profits at the farm level. These days, the family is now working with CAFESCOR for not only technical support, but also in order to help receive various certifications.
